IMEX Frankfurt: An important return

IMEX Frankfurt: An important return

By Rob Cotter

Dusted down following two years of COVID-19-enforced dormancy, Messe Frankfurt is once again flinging its doors open ready to provide some German business event Geist to delegates eager to attend the first IMEX to be held there in three years.

IMEX in Frankfurt, celebrating its 20th anniversary and running May 31-June 2, promises to be a solid statement that the sector is back with confidence. Almost 3,000 buyers from around the globe are geared up to personally engage with exhibitors from more than 90 countries and seize the opportunity to learn what’s new and exciting in the international industry, as well as how it has endured and evolved during the pandemic hiatus.

“So much has changed over the past three years—for the world and for our industry—and therein lies the value of this year’s IMEX,” said Carina Bauer, CEO of the IMEX Group. “It’s the ultimate living representation of our global market, an important snapshot in time.”

Lining up to be part of this return to a business-almost-as-usual snapshot are sizeable representations from Asia and Europe, as well as the largest African representation to ever take part in the show. North and South American and Middle Eastern destinations will all be making a strong presence at this year’s event, too, with pipeline announcements scheduled to cover the launch of the latest products, strategies and campaigns—including some new convention centers—entering the global market.

The event is also laying on an expansive schedule of more than 150 education events around the theme of Community, Communication and Connection. Many sessions are EIC CMP-accredited and target topics of budgeting, supply chain, recruitment and resources, so heavily disrupted in recent years, with sessions on sustainability and DEI also featuring prominently. Having taken on an accelerated role in sustaining the lifeblood of meetings in recent years, the spotlight is also on technology and its latest innovations in an increasingly tech-reliant world and industry.

Consistently providing a healthy mix of business with networking and leisure, this year’s IMEX will also be encouraging delegates to pack shoes to pound the banks of the River Main on an early 5km run, as well as hit the dance floor as they (sensibly) club on its opening night bash. As the global industry aims to once again convene and build back better, there’s a lot for attendees to look forward to.

“With the world now opening up, we’re seeing great excitement and commitment from our global community to come together at the show,” Bauer said. “We’re really excited to see how the industry is building forwards again and look forward to welcoming our community back to IMEX in Frankfurt.”

Check back on the MPI blog throughout the event as we’ll be bringing you the latest news from IMEX Frankfurt 2022 as it unfolds.
