MPI's Iberian Chapter Readies for Mallorca Loves MICE

MPI's Iberian Chapter Readies for Mallorca Loves MICE

By Alessia Comis

I am delighted to share that for the third year in a row, our MPI Iberian Chapter is co-organizing a signature event called “Mallorca loves MICE,” including cutting-edge conferences, round tables, workshops, transformative experiences, a MICE exhibition, and loads of networking opportunities for all.

The event is taking place on December 11-12 at the Palma Convention Center, a unique venue designed by the famous architect Francisco Mangado.

Overlooking Palma Bay, the convention center was inaugurated in 2017 and has since been successfully managed by Melia Hotels, whose leaders shared with the local institutions the vision behind the project: providing Palma with a large multifunctional space that could host major conferences and congresses, as well as cultural events such as concerts or exhibitions, thus increasing MICE opportunities on Mallorca.

Local organizers aim to position Mallorca as the new MICE destination in the Mediterranean and the most sustainable too, in line with MPI guidelines. As the idea of the event was mine, and my team helped developing a first class event that in 2020 is going to be replicated in Madrid, I can’t help feeling totally euphoric about it!

More About the Programme

I am excited to say that this year it focuses on three main topics:

  • Customer Journey and Experience
  • CSR and events
  • MICE, change gear and strategic element to evolve into a more sustainable economy

As in former editions, many leaders of the industry based in Spain are attending the conference, contributing as speakers or taking part in the round tables. One of the most expected is the round table about the latest trends and figures in events, and this year MPI professionals are monopolizing the stage: Elisabetta Caminiti, director of MINE Company and former president of MPI Italy; Gerard Reus, president of MPI France and Switzerland; Manuel Macias, director of Seville Convention Bureau and Eva Garde, director of Granada Convention Bureau, both MPI Iberian, are going to share their successes and failures in MICE promotion actions that took place in their respective destinations.

Elling Hamso, director of the ROI Institute, attended the show last year and submitted this recommendation (making me blush…and he knows it!):

“When invited to speak at last year's ‘Mallorca loves MICE’ event, I was surprised to discover a conference destination out of the ordinary, with a brand new and beautiful conference centre right in the middle of the historic old city of Palma. The conference programme was also leading edge, giving serious attention to the trending issues of the day—planned and executed—as I have learned to expect from Pidelaluna and partners. I recommend you to go there to learn and discover for yourself.”

Besides conferences, highlights are an exclusive cocktail dinner at luxury Es Princep Hotel downtown Palma, a students’ programme designed to encourage and integrate younger professionals into our industry, and a hosted buyers programme that will enable up to 20 national and international planners to meet up with local suppliers and discover the most authentic locations on the island.

All planners belonging to the MPI family in Europe are invited to ask for further info and submit their application by emailing info@pidelaluna.com. There are still some opportunities both for national and international Hosted Buyers-to-be.

Why come to Mallorca? We’ll be happy to show you around our stunning island, help you place a few orders for events in 2020 or 2021 and make you postpone your diet plans until January next year.
