New and Renovated Properties: May 2021

A glance at select meeting venue openings and renovations from the past month.

BELIZE

The 155-unit Alaia Belize, Autograph Collection resort has opened on Ambergris Caye spanning more than 20 acres and first hotel in San Pedro Town to sit on more than 1,000 feet of beachfront access.

ITALY

Reschio is set on a 3,700-acre pastoral estate in the Umbrian hills on Italy’s Umbria-Tuscany border and includes a 10th-century castle, this past summer saw the opening of Ristorante Alle Scuderie, a 70-capacity restaurant plus an Equestrian Theatre where Reschio’s 40 Andalusian pure-bred horses are now housed. In May, the estate will open a 36-room hotel, Hotel Castello di Reschio (see image at top of page), featuring a farm-to-table restaurant and an ethereal subterranean spa. 

The first W hotel in Italy, W Rome will be located near the famous Spanish Steps and the fashionable boutiques of Via Condotti when it opens in September. Spanning two adjacent 19th-century properties on Via Liguria, the hotel will offer 159 rooms and suites and one of the very few rooftop bars that boasts views across Rome.

PORTUGAL

The W Algarve, the brand’s entry into Portugal, is scheduled to open in Q3 this year with 134 guestrooms, direct access to three beaches and sea views from every room.

ROMANIA

Bethlen Estates Transylvania opens in June.

SPAIN

Following the most extensive renovation to take place in its 110-year history, the iconic Ritz Madrid opened in April as Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid. The property features 153 guestrooms, including 53 suites.

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

Arizona

Sheraton Phoenix Downtown, Arizona’s largest hotel located in the heart of downtown, has been reimagined from top-to-bottom. The 1,004-room hotel includes more than 110,000 square feet of meeting space.

California

The Shay, a Destination by Hyatt hotel—a 148-room boutique hotel slated to open late summer 2021 in Los Angeles—boasts 80,000 square-feet of thoughtfully designed indoor/outdoor meeting space with dual cityscape and mountain views.

Caribe Royale Orlando

Florida

Caribe Royale Orlando (above), Central Florida’s largest all-suite convention hotel has achieved a major milestone in its $125 million phased renovation with a new 50,000-square-foot grand ballroom and completion of the first tower of fully renovated one-bedroom suites. Renovation work continues on the resort’s two additional towers of suites and a new lobby.

Georgia

The Hilton Peachtree City Atlanta Hotel and Conference Center recently completed a multimillion-dollar renovation. The property has 250 guestrooms and a 30,000-square-foot conference center.

Michigan

The Daxton Hotel has opened its doors in Birmingham, 30 minutes north of Detroit.

New Jersey

Caesars Entertainment has announced a $400 million master plan investment in Atlantic City where it owns and operates three casino destinations—Caesars, Harrah’s Resort and Tropicana Atlantic City. The plans include remodeled room towers; freshly appointed interior design elements; enhancements to the casinos’ gaming floors; new dining concepts with acclaimed restaurant partners; and many more exciting additions within the next three years. These developments will bolster the City’s position as a Las Vegas-style destination market with a focus on revitalizing the world-famous Atlantic City Boardwalk. The first phase of the project, a $170 million renovation of guestroom and suites at Caesars and Harrah’s, will debut in Summer 2021.

Pennsylvania

The Industrialist Hotel, Autograph Collection opened in May in Pittsburgh’s Central Business District with 124 rooms.

Rhode Island

Champlin’s Marina and Resort opens this summer with 44 guestrooms, a full-service marina with 120 fixed slips, beach access and multiple dining options.

Utah

Slated to open in 2022, Hyatt Regency Salt Lake City will be the downtown area’s newest convention hotel and is expected to provide technology-forward conveniences with modern craftsmanship and design. The hotel will feature 700 guestrooms and 60,000 square feet of refined meeting space.
