The introvert’s guide to rocking LinkedIn: 3 tips you can’t ignore

By Leanne Calderwood, CMP

In the bustling world of meetings and events, where networking often feels like an extrovert’s game, LinkedIn stands as a beacon for the introverted professional. As someone who navigated the industry for over two decades, I’ve realized that LinkedIn isn’t just a platform for job hunting—it’s a goldmine for personal branding and connecting in a way that suits your style.

Here are three LinkedIn tips specifically tailored for introverts in the meeting and event industry.

1. Craft a personal brand that speaks volumes

Your LinkedIn profile is your digital handshake. As introverts, we might not always want to be the loudest in the room, but we can make sure our profiles are powerful. Start with a professional photo that captures your personality. Use your headline and summary to highlight your unique skills and experiences in the meetings and events sector. Your brand is more than your job title—it's a blend of your professional journey, your passions and your approach to work.

2. Create content with a purpose

Content creation can be daunting, but it’s an invaluable tool for showcasing your expertise. Start by sharing your insights on industry trends or write articles about your experiences in event planning or destination management. Each piece of content should add value to your network. Consider a quick “how-to” guide, industry analysis or even a personal story of a challenge you overcame. The key is consistency. Regular posts keep you visible and help establish you as a thought leader in your field.

3. Engage authentically

Networking on LinkedIn doesn’t have to be about quantity; it’s about quality. Spend time each week engaging with your connections’ content. Leave thoughtful comments or share posts with your insights. This engagement shows your interest and expertise without the pressure of in-person networking. Join LinkedIn groups related to the meeting and event industry to connect with like-minded professionals. Every interaction is a chance to build a relationship.

LinkedIn is a platform where the quiet voices can resonate just as powerfully as the loud ones. It’s about leveraging your strengths as an introvert—thoughtful content creation, genuine engagement and a personal brand that reflects your unique perspective in the industry. Your approach to LinkedIn can set you apart and open doors to new opportunities, all while staying true to your introverted nature.

To your success!
