The time has come. WEC 2026 in San Antonio is about to appear on the horizon. While next year’s WEC will be the event’s first time in the Alamo City, the global MPI community previously encountered nothing but excellence during its Professional Education Conference in San Antonio.
In advance of today’s WEC San Antonio Preview Lunch feat. Britton Moore, we reached out to Mario J. Bass, Visit San Antonio’s new president and CEO, to learn more about our next host.
“We are thrilled that San Antonio will host MPI’s WEC 2026,” Bass said. “As one of the nation’s most culturally rich and vibrant destinations, San Antonio offers an unforgettable experience for meeting professionals from around the world. From our historic charm and culinary excellence to our state-of-the-art meeting facilities and warm hospitality, attendees can expect a truly dynamic and inspiring event.”
The seventh-largest city in the U.S., San Antonio is experiencing remarkable growth, Bass said, sharing multiple new and finishing-soon developments that will benefit meeting and event groups.
Exciting enhancements are debuting in the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center neighborhood as much of the construction around the Center—including Hemisfair park and nearby streets—wraps in the year ahead. Hemisfair’s Civic Park promenade introducing a tree-lined walkway from the west side of the Center to the corner of Market and Alamo streets debuted earlier this year, along with a new plaza and stage for events.
Additionally, more hotel, dining and shopping options are on the way as The Monarch, a Curio Collection by Hilton, takes flight in early 2026. Additionally, road and sidewalk improvements on Alamo Street are on schedule to open by the spring.
“This dynamic expansion provides meeting planners with a wealth of options, including diverse hotel packages, distinctive venues, exceptional dining experiences, and an increasing number of non-stop flights,” Bass said. “We look forward to showcasing everything our city has to offer as we welcome the global MPI community!”
