A group of 20 Meeting Planners from around the country gathered in Frisco, Texas at the Omni PGA Frisco Resort & Spa on June 19, 2024 for the first Certified Golf Tournament Planner Program for Corporate Meeting Planners. Our Visit Frisco team was proud to partner with Meeting Professionals International to launch this program and to repeat it again for another successful year in April 2025.
Learning the Golf Event Landscape
The planners and members of the Visit Frisco staff participated in educational sessions covering all aspects of hosting and producing golf tournaments. From Pro Ams, Celebrity-Ams, and charity events to corporate events and even night golf tournaments, we learned the what, why, and how to hold a great golf event.
We also covered topics like selling sponsors, recruiting golfers, finding golf courses, formats, games and contests, scoring options, hotels, food and beverage, and more.
Personally, I am so proud to be the first DMO member alongside the first DMO Destination Services team to have earned this certification and are now certified by the GTAA (Golf Tournament Association of America).

Our certification came at the perfect time to leverage Frisco’s world-class facilities and courses. In addition to PGA of America moving their headquarters to Frisco, the opening of Omni PGA Frisco Resort & Spa marked our second golf resort in Frisco - the first being the beautiful Westin Stonebriar Golf Resort & Spa.
