WEC: Building an Impactful Future

By Michael Pinchera

Those attending MPI’s World Education Congress (WEC) in Las Vegas, June 15-17, as well as the live, online participants, will have the opportunity to experience the “Champions for Change: Lasting Social Impact that Matters” general session.

One of the panelists, Melvin Tennant, CAE (MPI Minnesota Chapter), president and CEO of Meet Minneapolis, spoke briefly with us about the session.

Asked what he hopes participants take away from the session, he said, “While I am blessed to among some prominent industry leaders, I want to make sure that we convey the importance of making everyone aware of the many unheard voices that we represent,” he says. “Those of us with a platform must be good stewards of that privilege.”

Looking to the bright future of the global meeting and event industry, and specifically its impact on social issues, Tennant noted, “I am optimistic because of the numerous initiatives in our industry that are designed to imbed inclusion within the very fiber of everything we do. We go beyond being a cheerleader for inclusion and provide leadership in sustainable change.”

The “Champions for Change: Lasting Social Impact that Matters” general session takes place June 16 at WEC Vegas and includes Tennant; Amy Calvert, CEO of the Events Industry Council; Julie Coker, president and CEO of San Diego Tourism; Jason Dunn Sr. of Cincinnati USA; Elliott Ferguson II, president and CEO of Destination DC; and speaker Rich Bracken.
